Ontario Health Insurance Plan (OHIP) Coverage for Eye Examinations

Children - 19 years of age and younger are eligible for one full eye examination every 12 months.

Seniors - 65 years and older are OHIP covered for a complete annual eye exam and unlimited eye health exams.

Adults - 20 to 64 years old - with diabetes, glaucoma, cataract, retinal disease, amblyopia, visual field defects, corneal disease, strabismus or uveitis are OHIP covered every year for a complete eye exam and an unlimited number of eye health exams.

Adults - 20 to 64 years old who do not have any of the above condtions are not covered by OHIP and will have to pay. Most insurance companies will provide coverage for eye examinations as well as for glasses and/or contact lenses. Please call your insurance provider and find out what type of coverage you have.
